There is absolutely no doubt that Estepona is surrounded by some beautiful places, within a relatively short distance. From Marbella to BenahavĂs, from Benamadena to Gibraltar, there are a selection of completely different vibes and each place has advantages and disadvantages.

Increasingly people are choosing Estepona, as a place to holiday or to create a new life in. We did, we choose Estepona fourteen years ago after holidaying up and down the coast, and carefully weighing up each area.

For us, we needed a laid back spanish environment, with good facilities for young children, and excellent spanish schools.   We were also about to start a business in Spain, so we needed to be in an all year round functioning town. Estepona offered all that and more. When we arrived, Estepona was a very beautiful town, but now, it is in another league. We now have a 17km long paseo, more parks, plants everywhere, all year round Estepona is a mass of colour.

In addition, there is the climate, mild in the winter, and hot in the summer, perfect for an outdoor life. Also, since moving to Estepona, there has been lots of expat groups gaining members, from cold water sunrise swims to hiking groups. If you want to meet people and keep fit, Estepona is the perfect place.

Estepona is also the perfect place for children, my two children have grown up within a spanish community, fluent in spanish and English, and completely integrated. It has not always been easy, there are, without doubt, cultural differences but children adapt. Their school is full of many different nationalities, which can only enhance their life experience.

The activities for children are numerous and reasonably priced, from fencing to dance, running to gymnastics, I could fill up their time five times over. All run by teachers that have become mentors to the children.

In conclusion, Estepona is the perfect place for our family, and it could be for yours too. If you are not prepared to learn the language and integrate, there are easier places, with a bigger expat community, but for us, the challenge adds to the quality of life.

With our personal experience under our belt, we are always happy to help anyone new joining our happy Estepona family.

If you have any questions, we are always happy to help.
